Milan. Born Milan Radenkovic in 1941 in Belgrade (died 1971 in NYC), Serbian-American pop singer. Also known as The Leather Boy.

Wade Cooper. East Coast soul Singer.

 

Valli. Obscure female singer signed to Scepter Records where she recorded two singles. The Shirelles were the major group at Scepter at that time, so they used The Shirelles hit "Soldier Boy" as a background for Valli’s song. She also is singing over The Shirelles "Boys" on Spokane (sub-label of Scepter).

 

The Two-Notes. Female vocal duo: Redda Robbins and Jeanette Harris. They recorded as by The Classics on Top Rank the following year (1960).

 

Sonny Till. Born Earlington Carl Tilghman in 1928, died 1981. He was part of the vocal group of The Orioles as first tenor vocalist from 1947 to 1954. After 1954 changed the name (and some members) of the group in Sonny Til & The Orioles.

Also, recorded three tracks as Sonny Till, for Roulette in 1958 and for Dade in 1963. B-side of Dade single was credited to Sonny & Virgil. The label should have read Sonny & Virgie (Virgie was Sonny’s girlfriend).

Bob Moline. Teen Sound singer and composer whose career kept him active primarily in television and film. He sang, wrote and produced music for Honda, Wyler’s Lemonade, C&H Sugar, just to name a few.

Let me share my observation, very interesting observation for collectors of both American and British music.

Five years ago I have started Rare British Pop 1957-1966 (237 Parts so far)*.

Three years ago I have started Obscure US 1956-1963 (500 Parts so far).

I have a good comparison between Obscure British and American Artists from the late 1950s and early 1960. My conclusion is clear: Obscure British Artists play in a different league than American Artists. If American Artists play in Premier League (First Division) then British Artists play in the Third Division or even lower, with few exceptions. I grew up listening British Artists and just recently (last 3-4 years) I have started discovering Obscure American Artists. Sesame full of treasures.

* Not much is left for posting in Rare British Pop 1957-1966, practically no artists worth to be saved from oblivion. The list of MISSING UK can be found in the main post of this series, also in Content.

File Naming and Tagging - Tips

 

99% of songs posted on the Internet are improperly named and tagged, including CDs. Common mistakes:

1.       Many tags are added to Filename. Use a clean, consistent format like Artist - Title or Track - Artist - Title. Artist and Title are obligatory, do not add other tags, such as Year, Genre, Label, etc., add them to internal tags (metadata).

2.       The Filename differs from the internal tag (metadata) that shows in music players. Very often content of internal tag does not correspond to its description, e.g. tag described as Title contains both Title and Artist.

3.       Do not add “& The Group” in both Filename and Artist tag – all songs are recorded with The Group of musicians, except acapella, and adding “& The Group” does not add any information.

4.       In many cases, song titles do not follow common title capitalization rules. Following capitalization rules used in popular libraries of music is recommended = every word in Title should be capitalized.
