If the lost artist did not appear already and is not present on the spreadsheet of missing songs*, then it does not mean that I have forgotten this artist. It means that the discography is not complete and there are many such artists.
* Not every song/artist that is missing is included on the spreadsheet, which is overloaded already.

Hi Professor. Great music. I don't see the Pass on BL 03 on the password worksheet.

Thanks Professor. I have stopped downloading except from a very few sites. Yours being one of them. Thanks again for this music.

I just started downloading and listening today. I've just been picking out random tracks and already I've found a few favorites. From Volume 2 I was totally taken with the Joe Meek meets Johnny Cash sound of "You Made Me Cry" by Burr Bailey. And sure enough when I checked it out on 45 Cat, it turns out Joe Meek produced it. Also from Vol.2, The Aces - But Say It Isn't So. In my imagination I am seeing these guys hearing The Searchers and The Hollies and thinking 'hey we can do something just as good' and they surely did.

I'll stop here as I could likely go on all day. I am curious to hear that stands out from the other music fans here.

Thank you very much for your comment. Such comments are of primary importance to me and, I hope, to other Visitors also. I have started exploring intensively British Scene of the 60’s, not because I just wanted to recall my memories, because this Scene, Scene of the mid-60's in particular, created a foundation of modern Pop Music. This Scene was very compact with Meek, Epstein and Oldham as the main figures and you can find their influence, influence of British Top Groups, in practically every tune recorded those days in Britain.

Depends on how you define what should be included. Certainly its a fascinating and entertaining genre.
If you cast a wide net and include material from the late 1950's all the way through to the end of the 1960's and also include all types of instrumental (guitar led, keyboard led, TV themes (e.g. The Prisoner), even some orchestral and big band (e.g. George Martin, John Barry, Andrew Loog Oldham)and the later r&b / psych / prog stuff of the mid / late 60's(Zoot Money, Sounds Inc, Beggar's Banquet, Second City Sound, Brian Auger, Graham Bond etc)I think you'll find there is sufficient instrumental material for 20 or more decent collections.
After all, Slingback Records compiled eleven 30 track volumes of rare UK instrumentals under the 'Those British Instrumentals' banner and they didn't go beyond 1965 really (a couple from 1966)and nowhere were 'the Shads' in attendance.
So it will certainly be interesting to see how far your exploration of the genre extends!
5 January 2021 at 12:15

@Anona Mouse
Thanks for the comment. I will try to explore my archives as far as possible, also orchestral and big bands and it will give more than 20 parts for sure. Yes, most of the 45s are from late 50s and early 60s, till 1965 - it was the best period for this genre, in my opinion. What regards the artists, I assume only one condition: only one or few 45s recorded. Then, no Bert Weedon for example - perhaps later.

What regards passes, please read the top message.

Hello Professor RnR, I am sending you this list that corresponds to the project of singles and ep's of all these 60's groups (I only include songs edited at 45 rpm). I have used the “45CAT”and "Discogs" in some cases database. I have made one folder per group but you will see that some groups have more than one folder. This is because on the one hand there are singles published in the UK and in the rest of the cases they are songs that were only published in other countries. The letter "C" means that it is complete and those that do not have the letter "C" is because I am missing songs. In many cases the songs I am looking for are the same ones that you are missing. If you need me to share something that appears on the list, tell me. Greetings.

https://www.mediafire.com/file/zsor06ayjbyn6xy/GROUPS_LIST.ods/file

Group example with two folders:

The Snobs Discography - UK - 45 C
01 The Snobs - Buckleshoe Stomp - Decca F 11867 (1964) UK
02 The Snobs - Stand And Deliver - Decca F 11867 (1964) UK

The Snobs Discography - All Countries - 45 C
01 The Snobs - Heartbreak Hotel - Decca F 44419 (1964) Sweden
02 The Snobs - Ding Dong - Decca F 44419 (1964) Sweden

Another great song block (No. 23).Thanks for the booklet too.
I've heard the Hustlers for two songs in the past. All the other material
is new for me.

Professor RnR said...

@ Jaime. It looks that you have exactly the same target. I'm using exactly the same references, "the songs have been obtained from different sources, CD's, You Tube, 45 originals, etc. but always with a minimum sound quality, since some youtube recordings have a horrible sound" - yes and also some tracks from CD's have poor quality. Normaly, when selecting a track, I select the best from few copies that I have. I will compare your wish-list with my wish-list, it would be efficient if your wish-list discographies would be extracted. Then, may I ask you to check my wish-list, some 150 tracks and it will take a moment or two to compare with your wish-list. I'm happy that we can join our efforts.

Professor RnR said...

@ Jaime
The Snobs, both 45s, will appers in BL 31. I have subscribed your channel and will study the content - the day has only 24 hours and I'm more busy now, when I'm retired, than when I was with the University.

Professor RnR said...

@ Jaime
I couldn't wait with the verification.
1. Majority of Artists from my wish-list are not present on your wish-list
2. Some number of Artists, around ten) are on both wish-lists
3. You have Completed two Artists from my wish-list:
Sandra Barry (two tracks recorded under different names),
The Gonks (US release)
and I will greatly appreciate if you could send me these tracks.

Jaimoto said...

Sorry Professor RnR, there is an error in the Gonks, I only have the only 45 that they published in the UK for Decca in the 60's. From Sandra Barry I have the four singles that she released with Decca and Pye.

No problem Jaime. Sandra recorded two more 45s, earlier. May I repeat my humble request:
"please check my wish-list of missing tracks". I have verified your spreadsheet with this wish-list already, but it is easy to make an omission.

zimmerb9a! said...

Great The Moontrekkers on BL 26. I've searched this group for a long time.
Thank you very much!

Jaimoto said...

Hello, I have found these two tracks that have better sound than those published in vol. 24 and 27

Shel Naylor - How Deep Is The Ocean - Decca F 11776 (1963)
The Juniors - There's A Pretty Girl - Columbia DB 7339 (1964)

https://www.mediafire.com/file/g8a4gjq0xjmj0g3/Better_Sound.rar/file
Pass: Jaimoto

Professor RnR said...

Thanks Jaime,
What regards sound quality, I'm very strict.
Naylor's tume really sounds flat, like microphone recording, should not be accepted.
Juniors' tune is not so bad but your copy is even better.
Anyway, I will replace both tunes, by your copies. And please continue sound-quality control of the material that I'm posting. I hate poor copies, it takes off the listening pleasure.

Many many thanks WiMa. What a contribution. Sound quality of 90% is good, should be very good after remastering. I can remove all overlapping sounds (noise, clicks). I have to surrender if the music is distorted (poor rip). Then, I have to keep Linda Laine, Cuddly Dudley on the wish-list – I have these copies but I’m not able to improve poor sound quality. Also, I have this copy of Tony & The Velvets and spent few hours to improve the sound quality – please check the effect in BR 10.

Hi Professor

Thanks for the 60's British Lost Pop songs. I'm halfway now listening to them.
What an unbelievable collection. Many of them are very rare to find them.
Some of them i have on cd. Like "The Koobas", Rory Storm, Doug Sheldon to mention a few.
Even the 45's of "Grazina" are extremely rare to find.
Anyway a huge thanks for sharing them with us all of these diamonds & pearls of the 60's.

Is it possible that the list of passes i received from you is out-dated?
Or is it me doing something wrong? I will try again with the list i have.

BL40 - BL49 - BL72 - BL79 I'm stuck with these and a couple more.

Take care and THANKS.

Hi Prof,

About BL163:
There goes a story that Reflections Of Charles Brown by Rupert’s People/Fleur de Lys with its Bach basics has been the stepping stone for Procol Harum’s A Whiter Shade Of Pale. Though Rupert’s People 45’er was released after A Whiter Shade Of Pale, the Charles Brown song was already recorded in 1966 (by Fleur de Lys), before Procol Harum’s massive hit.

Hi Professor,
thank you very much for the new series
of Great Lost Artists (201-209).
It's always a big surprise for me to
see many actors I've never heard
(The Shake Spears, Gene Latter).
And now best wishes for the new year 2024!

Hi Prof

I've been looking through the UK missing tracks list to see if there were any other tracks I could offer you and I came across a bit of a puzzle. You have listed a song called 'Butchie's Tune" by 'the Young Idea' but when you look on discogs there is no song of that name in their discography. When you look on 45cat the same is true but when you search on the Young Idea on 45cat for some reason it pulls up a single by Scott Henderson on Pye - "Saturday Night People / Butchie's Tune". Is the B-Side of that single the one you are missing and in fact it should be listed under Scott Henderson and not 'The Young Idea'?

Hi Manny,
In column V, Remarks, you can find this information. Scott Henderson in column V means that the song is credited to this artist. In one row of my complete sheet you can find Scott Henderson with annotation: see Young Idea - this information will appear in artist bio, when posted, i.e. when Butchie's Tune will be found.

Hi Prof,

Thanks for the explanation. While I'm here Ive found a few missing tracks that are on the UK list. The bit rates aren't great (128/192) but these are the ones I've found (on Soulseek):

The Three Bells - Inbetween (Wishing I Was Sweet Sixteen)
Michael Cox - Teenage Love
Michael Cox - Love My Life Away
Donna Douglas - Turn Around
Finders Keepers - Sadie the cleaning lady
Finders keepers - Without her
Barbara Ruskin - Sun Showers

Link : https://mega.nz/file/S5dTnAYa#OPsF1wXwebG5BqTbh5g5xTQp2f0_STEqazvaVASgKNA

The one thing to look out for is with 'Love My Life Away' which seems to be rather short (1.21) and its possible that whoever ripped it has cut off the end of it.

There is good news as well. Jasmine records are to release a compilation of Neville Taylor / Hal Munro material at the start of March which I intend on buying so will be able to source the two missing 1960 Neville Taylor tracks @320/Flac in the near future (but not the 1961 tracks sadly). Incidentally I couldn't find any Hal Munro tracks in your Brit, Lists missing or found. Are you interested in those? The compilation features all his Embassy output as Munro by the looks of it (15 tracks).

Needless to say if you need to upgrade any of the Taylor's tracks (and some tracks by the Cutters / Rock N Rollers) that may well be possible too.

Here's the Amazon link to it : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rockaroo-Almost-Complete-Recordings-1958-1961/dp/B0CSPQYMGR/ref=sr_1_1?crid=RWEY34J99YHN&keywords=neville+taylor&qid=1708027682&s=music&sprefix=neville+taylor%2Cpopular%2C390&sr=1-1

Anyway I hope that helps you and let me know if you want anymore of the Taylor / Munro material and I'll rip the two missing tracks when I get the CD.

Hi Manny,
Many thanks for rarities. Actually, all except one (Three Bells) have been found already by Kees, just two weeks ago. The wish-list is constantly updated – please scroll down to check the date.
Cox’s Teenage Love is ’61 version, I’m looking for ’59 version.
I have posted Hal Munro discography already, BL180 (BR80), together with Neville Taylor.
I appreciate missing Neville Taylor. Sound quality of Jasmine rips is far from excellence, also very often the speed is not correct, but it is better than nothing. To be honest, I do not understand why Jasmine rips are far from perfection. Btw, bit rate is meaningless, 128 is enough. Ripping technique and remastering is what really matters.

Manny,
The Cutters have been posted already, Rock 'n Rollers will be posted on Monday (BL 211).

Hi Prof,

I can't see the link for Vol. 213. Is it me or have you not posted it yet?

My omission, sorry.
