There are thousands and thousands of
collectors, and most of them are selfish, unwilling to cooperate, to share. I
send my humble request for help to members of 45cat and Discogs, 90% go
unanswered. I get the requested mp3 very randomly.
On the other hand, four comments, during the last two months and it's really frustrating.

Nobody reads blogs anymore. Those of us who still do it do it for the love. Know that even if you only have a hundred readers, they're pbably grateful.

I'm aware of that and I will try to keep the blog alive for those hundred readers. What makes me frustrated is lack of response to my humble requests sent to 45cat and Discogs members. I spend >100€/month on vinyls but many are not available on Internet sales.
i have never understood your million pws and gave up after spending way too much precious time. really wanted to participate but life is finite. i appreciate your efforts and respect your right to do it your way.
Thanks a lot for all your work! If you want to close the blog, it's your decision, you do what you want and nobody has the rights to critisize you, but it would be sad, if you do it!? One reason perhaps maybe, because it is a little bit difficult und frustrating for a visitor, for example like me, to visit your blog and also beeing happy of doing it too, is, that there is no pass easyily available for opening the, however, nice files with the music, like it is possible on and with many other blogs!? To get the pass and find it is a little bit more complicated too; for example, since more than 2 years I'm visiting your blog for looking and reading, without getting no never any pass to open the files, this is senseless, I think so! I'm always asking myself, why it is so complicated with your blog, to open the files, or getting a pass, or whether it is only necessary to need a pass and make it necessary to use a pass for such files, 'cause many other bloggers don't use a pass for the files on their blogs, or they give it or noun it open for seeing the pass immediately at once at a one first easy view!?
That maybe, I think, while and because people are getting tired, for visiting this or that, at a blog, for example like your's!? Nothing for bad please, but that's true, sorry!
Best Regards and stay safe!
PS:
Some people may think perhaps: "Why should I thank for a thing I can't get?!"
I think that some people do not understand how this blog works, read things well, in order to have passes to download you have to collaborate on the blog. For example, contributing the songs that Professor R'n'R is looking for, making contributions with which Professor buys the records that are missing to complete discographies... In short, collaborating, you cannot demand without giving something in return.
The comments on blogs is a losing battle, many visits and few comments, it is perhaps a matter of cyber-education.
But I think that many blogs, even if they have almost no comments, have great prestige and that should be worth it to bloggers as a reward.
There is also the question that blogs, as the first commentator rightly says, "are out of fashion" and we remain nostalgic. Blogs with very few followers when switching to YouTube for example, have thousands of followers. Times change and we have to do it ourselves or continue with our romantic line, without caring about anything else.
Many blogs have disappeared due to the lack of comments, I hope this is not one more.

Sorry to hear that. I really love to participate. I do have some music too, but "unfortunately" you have so much, so helping out with the more rare stuff is hard. And as you already know, I don't like to comment for comments sake :-)
Hi Professor,
I'm sorry to hear that you're thinking of closing the blog. So much great music you've provided over the years. Sure, you're password system is a little complicated sometimes, but not unfathomable. I think that the songs that you are still missing are just too difficult to find.
But you can rest assured that I really appreciate all the work you have gone to, and if you do decide to close up shop, I totally understand. Thank you my friend.
Best wishes,
Dockman
Hi Prof,
As always your blog provides a unique and essential role in the music blogosphere filling in gaps in the singles genre that no other blog really addresses. Thank you again for your magnificent efforts.
I would also add this is not a blog for the casual downloader who is happy with a selection of greatest hits collections but for those of us who are obsessed with the 20th century pop scene. As such the audience that fully understands and appreciates what is involved is probably limited to a relatively small percentage of those who visit your site. Simply collating the background information to guide and inform your collections in itself would take considerable determination and effort to locate and many of your more casual visitors I doubt have ever even contemplated trying to get such information and as such could never understand the effort required.
Equally, I would echo the observation that this is a complicated site especially for those who weren't around when you began posting music nearly a decade ago and if it lacks anything, I would suggest it is an easy to follow explanation of the site and what it contains and a restructuring of that index with links to the various sections of this marvelous collection. Furthermore, as part of the explanation it would tell people how they can become involved and enjoy the collection. I can imagine many visiting without realising that they need to contribute and being perplexed when subsequently faced with archives that demand an illusive password.
In all fairness this has become a very large site with a vast collection of bespoke compilations and possibly one of the biggest active collections in existence (by my count almost 2,500 separate active archives across 13 categories most with sub categories as well). That is a lot for most people to get their heads around and its relatively complicated to navigate. An explanation and an expanded category orientated index (menu) explaining what the categories are would make it much more accessible I believe. Furthermore by featuring this explanation and index permanently as a link(s) between the donate button and the blog list on each page (or somewhere else as prominent) it would always be easily available. Similarly I would separately feature the wants / missing list prominently above the contact form. I'd also add a column to the missing tracks spreadsheet to highlight where the track might be available (eg the name of any CD comps, albums or the a-side of the original 45 where available) as this might help people recognise that they do have the tracks in question. Similarly I'd also provide links to any wish-lists you might have on Discogs and 45cat as part of the missing links. The more you help people to know what you are after the more likely you are to get a response. Equally with sites like Discogs you have little idea whether other accounts are still active or not or how frequently people access their accounts. I know when I go onto Discogs that I have never checked my messages (I barely check my main e-mail accounts adequately).
As for myself I can only acknowledge that perhaps I do not have the time to contribute as I might otherwise wish to and at this time of year horticulture takes priority over just about everything else and for others holidays and other summer pursuits may prove a distraction. Be sure to know that your efforts are recognised, by some of us at least, for the immense value they offer so please do carry on despite the inevitable frustrations.
PS Please excuse the suggestions and discard them if you wish but as I genuinely hope this blog continues I only want it to work better for you.
