Sullivan James Band. Formed in Ipswich, August 1965: Richard Dick Moles (lead vocals), Michael Noller (guitar), Neville Moles (bass), Mike Finbow (piano), Dick Mayhew (trombone), Richard Dick Maun (baritone sax), John Mayhew (drums). In June 1966, the band signed to EMI’s Parlophone Records and set off to Abbey Road Studios. “It is worth noting that the band’s version of Little Milton’s We’re Gonna Make It was cut in a single take. They had hoped this would be the A-side but were overruled in favour of the more pop-orientated Goodbye Mr Heartache,” recalled Finbow in 2003. Finbow departed after the single and was replaced by Roger Kemp. The group then embarked on a tour of Germany in November 1966. The four-month tour took in the Star Club, Karlsruhe, and a short diversion to Copenhagen, to support Paul (ex-Manfred Mann) Jones. When the group returned in February 1967, the rigours of touring and having very little money divided the band, who effectively split.
